So. About that reaction to John Hurt…
It’s OK for an actor to completely turn his back on the longest running Sci-Fi franchise, which has a history of the lead returning, and maintain that attitude after the ‘offending’ persons had left the show, despite pleas from the succeeding production team, and hordes of adoring fans.
(Also, Tom Baker went on to regret not appearing in The Five Doctors, and Colin Baker returned to the role 6 years after being unceremoniously FIRED by the BBC.)
BUT. If the current team even remotely imply a change to an already unstable canon (we never saw 8 regenerate into 9), all hell breaks loose. We don’t know what’s going to happen in November. We DO KNOW that HurtDoc is NOT considered a ‘Doctor.’ Eleven said it plainly.
If you’re going to hate on a writer for writing a story he wants to tell, and using what resources he can, then do the fandom a favour, and just watch your Series One DVDs over and over, and just remember, you’ll have Christopher Eccleston to thank for it being the best you’ll get.

Smith’s delivery in the last gif was utter perfection. The tone of finality, of despair, blended brilliantly. How people question his role in the show absolutely baffles me.
